ILR BOARD MINUTES

July 27, 2010

Meeting called to order at 9:09 EDT.  Board members Mark Smith, Bill Safreed, Mary Jo Miller, Kathi McKinney, Kristy Brown and Registrar Jan Wassink present.

ILR-SD:  No motions need approval.

National Finals Show:

1.      The ILR board sent separate proposals to both LFA and ALSA to try to hold two or three national events all the same weekend. The advantage to the membership would be savings on facilities rent, travel expenses, stall fees and advertising costs savings. Both associations declined a national show event, so the ILR-SD will pursue their own venue.

2.       The board discussed the long-term vision of making the national finals show a marketing event. There was discussion of having a concurrent fiber festival and/or having a daily scheduled event to encourage the public to attend and participate.

3.      The board discussed the final two venues and weighed the pros and cons of each event center. Motion to hold the 2011 National Finals show at the IA State Fairgrounds and the 2012 Nationals Finals show at the NAILE. Motion by Mark, second by Kristy. Motion passed unanimously. Once a date has been secured, an eBulletin will be prepared and sent to the membership making the announcement.

1.      The board went into executive session to discuss member concerns.
