ILR BOARD MINUTES

January 31, 2001

Meeting called to order at 12:00 noon EST.

Present: Karen Baum, Jack Moore, Sally Rucker, Sally Taylor and Jan Wassink, Registrar. Kathi McKinney had a farm emergency and was unavailable. Vice President, Karen Baum presided over the call.

  1. Minutes approved as published on ILR web site.
  2. December Cash Flow
    Jan discussed December cash flow.
  3. ARI/ILR Contract
    Effective January 1, 2001 ARI signed a new three year contract with ILR to continue providing registry services.
  4. Buccal Swab Testing for DNA Analysis
    UC Davis lab is continuing testing the use of buccal swabs for DNA samples. They report that unless the swabs are free of vegetable matter they cannot use the swabs for accurate testing. Green swabs won’t work. UC Davis is also working on universal markers to facilitate reciprocity with BoviCan Labs(Canada) to provide Canadian breeders with DNA testing in Canada.
  5. Petitions Committee
    Petitions committee received one petition during the month of January. Report was made on decision.
  6. Herd Identifier Policy
    New wording for policy book regarding herd identifiers to clarify the position of reserved herd identifier was discussed and the rule was revised to make the this reservation easier to understand. Motion: Karen Baum, 2nd Jack Moore to change the wording of the article regarding the herd identifier as suggested by Jan Wassink.
  7. Registrar Evaluation Form
    Jack had response from the BOD regarding the Registrar’s Evaluation form. The consensus was to use the form Jack designed. We will follow up at the face-to-face.
  8. Policy Book 2001
    The Policy Book will be ready for mailing after the face-to-face meeting in March.
  9. Election Committee
    Jack explained the procedure for the election committee. The ballots should be sent out in April.
  10. Face-to-Face Meeting 2001
    The face -to-face meeting will held in Salt Lake City. BOD members will arrive March 17 with meetings the 18th and 19th and until about noon on the 20th.
  11. Montana Large Animal Sanctuary
    There was discussion of the certificate requested by the Montana Large Animal Sanctuary. Jan will talk with Kathryn Warrington and report back to the BOD. We will have further discussion at the face to face meeting.
  12. Next meeting scheduled for 12 noon EST, February 21, 2001.
