study is being administered by Morris Animal Foundation. Dr. Levy will

The meeting broke for lunch and the staff of the Registry office joined
the BOD for lunch in the meeting room.
- Report from ILR Manager of Information Services
Alan Schmautz joined the meeting after lunch to explain the computer
programs currently being upgraded and improved by the ILR office. The most
pressing computer related change in the Registry office has been designing a
bar-coding system for DNA that is required the Veterinary Genetics Lab (VGL)
at UC Davis.
The process for DNA analysis and registration beginning August 1, 2001
will be as follows:
For a new registration - Owner will submit the application for
registration to the Registry office along with the appropriate registration
fee and current DNA analysis fee ($32.00. The application will be processed
and an invoice for the registration will be returned along with a bar-code
label for the blood sample to be taken for VGL, and a label for your
records.
The owner will then draw the blood sample, attach the bar-code label, and
send the sample to VGL. The lab will complete the DNA analysis and send the
report electronically to the Registry. If the report confirms parentage the
Registry will send the registration certificate and DNA results to the
member.
For previously registered llamas - Owner may write, call, fax or email
the ILR to request DNA analysis on a particular llama. The Registry will
bill the owners account and send the owner an invoice along with the
bar-code label. The process is then the same as above. The invoice is due
upon receipt.
In both cases the ILR will forward the llama’s information to VGL, which
will then be linked to the blood sample when it arrives at the lab.
Alan also reported that the data retrieval for database searches by the
members has been well received.
