ILR BOARD MINUTES

August 22, 2001

Meeting called to order at 12 Noon EDT. Present: Karen Baum, Art Kennel, Jack Moore, Sally Rucker, Sally Taylor and Jan Wassink, Registrar.

  1. Approve Last meeting Minutes
    Motion, Karen Baum: Officially approve minutes of the meeting of August 22, 2001, Second, Art Kennel: 4 Ayes. Jack Moore abstained because he was absent from the call.
  2. Schedule Next BOD Call
    The next conference call will be October 10, 2001 at 12 Noon EDT.
  3. Registrar's Report
    The Registrar’s Report was given by Jan Wassink. The BOD reviewed the profit and loss report for August. Meridian building report: The cost of the remodel for the front of the building is less than anticipated. Some of the other improvements may cost more, but Jan is looking into options to keep the costs within the budget he presented at the June face-to-face meeting. The move from the current ILR office is now scheduled for mid-October.
  4. Petitions Committee
    The Petitions Committee has one item under consideration at this time. The ILR office will attempt to verify the original transfer of the animals in question before proceeding with transfer and registration of subsequent offspring.
  5. ILA Discussion
    Sally Rucker reported on her conversation with representatives of ILA. No action taken.
  6. ARI Contract
    There was discussion of the request by ARI to reassign the ARI contract. A letter will be sent to ARI stating the ILR position on this issue. There was also discussion of DNA analysis, freezer samples and bar-coding.
  7. Government Relations
    Art Kennel presented a resolution regarding ILR assuming the government relations duties on behalf of llama owners. Lengthy discussion followed. Motion: Karen Baum. The Long Range Planning Committee will seek industry input and form an ad hoc committee to study the issue of government relations. This committee will present the mechanics to the ILR/BOD at the October 10, 2001, meeting with a plan of how the Government Relations Committee would function. Art Kennel will be the chairman of this committee. Second: Art Kennel. 5 Ayes. Motion: Sally Rucker. ILR will establish a fund to accept donations from the lama community to finance the government relations functions. This fund would be called the ILR Government Relations Fund. Second, Art Kennel. 5 Ayes.
  8. Cross-bred Registrations
    There was discussion of correspondence from a member concerned about cross-bred registrations. Jan has responded to this concern.
