On-line Helps and Hints
What to do when you have difficulty with the web site.

This months topics concern Ad-Blocking software and some problems concerning some confusion concerning digital photograph submission on the web site.

Ad Blocking Software
We have a report that the use of Norton Ad Blocker may be preventing you from receiving the information available in the right hand column of our web site. It is hard to complain when a program does an admirable job of fulfilling its purpose. However, the right hand 'advertiser's' bar is used for more than merely displaying advertisments. Llama farms and ranches, as well as organizations, will be using this means to let you know about upcoming events, sales and other opportunities, as well as products. If you are using Norton Ad Blocker, you will need to do the following to receive all the information available to you:

1. Open Norton Anti-Spam program.
2. Double Click on 'Ad Blocking'.
3. Click on the 'Advanced' tab.
4. On the left side of the 'Advanced'  box is 'Web Contents Option',  click on the button at bottom that is labelled 'Add Site' to open the New Site/Domain box.

5. Type 'lamaregistry.com' after the 'www.' provided.

6. Click on 'OK'.

7. Be sure www.lamaregistry.com is highlighted.
8.  On the right side of the dialogue box  is 'Ad Blocking' (see above)

9. Click on "add" at bottom to open 'Add new HTML string' box

11. You are provided with 2 choices - 'Block' or 'Permit' - Click on 'Permit'

12. Ad d '/ad' to www.lamaregistry.com

13. Click on "OK" at bottom of "Advanced" box

That's all there is to it. You are ready to receive and read all of the ILReport. We know that the instructions and screen images pertain specifically to Norton Ad-blocker, and that you may be using another product. But the concept should be similar, even though the controls may be located in different menus and/or may be labelled differently. If you are having trouble with a particular piece of software, we recommend contacting the company directly. If that is not possible, you are welcome to submit your problem to the ILR Web Use forum.

Digital Photograph Submission on the ILR Web Site

In the past weeks we have talked with a few of you concerning problems with submitting photographs on the ILR web site. In the following paragraphs I will try to explain the concept behind the photograph submission, along with a number of helpful hints regarding how you can make your submission with confidence.

Before I begin, I want to freely admit that this area of the ILR web site needs tweaking. The software itself has proven to be solid, but the communication of how it should be used is lacking. I will be working through the registration and photograph upload process with the programmer in December to improve this area.

New Registrations
The online registration utility is intended for 2 purposes. First, it is intended to provide a means for you to complete the entire registration process for all llamas where only the registering party's signature is required in all 4 occurences on the registration form. Upon completion of the registration form, and 'submitting' the form, the program will check the ILR ownership records for the sire at conception, dam at conception, dam at birth and the person registering the new llama. If one or more owner code is represented in all those situations, the program will ask you if you wish to go ahead and upload photographs, completing the registration process. You may choose at this time to upload photographs, delay your upload to a later time, or choose to mail photographs to the ILR.

The upload process of digital photographs is the same for new registration, delayed upload or updated llama photographs, so I will deal with all of them at the same time below - click here to go directly to that process description.)

If one or more owner code is not included in all 4 ownerships, the program will ask you to print at least 2 copies of the form and inform you that a paper copy, including all signatures, must be mailed to the ILR along with photographs and appropriate fees.

Important! Every on-line registration form is assigned a Registration Application Number (RAN). This number is assigned to the llama being registered on a temporary basis, and as soon as the information is entered into the ILR computers, this number is replaced by the six digit registration number that you will find on the llama's certificate. Even if you choose not to complete your registration on-line, a RAN is assigned and information is stored. Please, at least, record your RAN for each animal. All printed on-line registration forms will include the RAN in the top right hand corner.

If you are eligible to upload photographs for your registration, simply follow the instructions provided. Specifications are given to you in pop-up boxes. To properly use the ILR On-line Registration process, you will need to allow pop-ups for lamaregistry.com. (If you have any question on how to do, this please get in touch with us at ilr@lamaregistry.com and provide your browser and version - i.e. Microsoft Internet Explorer v6.1.)

The Upload Process
The upload process is pretty straightforward. It can be accessed through a new on-line registration, where all of the ownership signatures match at least one of the registering owners, or through the 'Database' utility.

If you have delayed your photograph upload or are sending new photographs for your llama, you will go to www.lamaregistry.com/rsearch.php and provide your owner code and password to enter the database. For ILR members click on #6 Update Photos of Your Animal. For other llama owners go to the link that says same link on the database page just above the query choices

In the menu of this utility, there will be places to choose which llama for which you are uploading photographs. If your llama is a new registration, choose the correct RAN from the top list. All RANs under your owner code will be listed here. If the RAN is not available, check your copy of the on-line registration. If the number is not included, contact the ILR office.

If your llama has been assigned a registration number, select the proper animal from the list. All animals recorded as being in your herd will be listed. If the correct registration number is not included, verify the number entered and then contact the Registry office.

A little preparation will help make your registration process much easier. I am sure all of you have all the necessary information for the llama being registered on hand. But it is also a good idea to have identified your llama's photograph and location in a way that it will be easy for you to find it. This is especially critical if you are registering more than one llama. Be sure you name your digital photograph file in a way that you can recognize the llama and side, such as 'elsie_right_side.jpg' and 'elsie_left_side.jpg'.

When you upload photographs of your llama, the program will rename the files stored on the web server to match the RAN of your llama. 'Elsie_right_side.jpg' will be changed to something like '1023r.jpg' (1023 being the RAN of this llama). When the upload is complete, there are 2 items for you to check to be sure the upload was successful. The first is to be sure your image is viewable on the screen. Our program will show you what you uploaded immediately upon receipt of the image. Be sure it is the correct llama and that it is facing the right way (a photograph of the right side of a llama will have the head facing to the right). Also check that the file name is correct (such as 1023r.jpg). (Note - for upload through ILR Database - If the file name is not complete, such as 'r.jpg', please go back and reselect the llama to upload. Be certain that you selected the correct upload procedure. If your llama is included as a RAN, be sure you select the 'Update Temp Reg Photo'. If your llama already has a registration number, be sure you select the 'Update Registration Photo'.)

We are receiving photographs almost every day. We appreciate your willingness to learn and use this new means of providing registration forms and photographs. The on-line process holds the key to rapid and low-cost registrations in the years to come.
