From the Registrar - Jan L. Wassink |
Dear Llama Owners,
RE: Listing Documents
In response to comments from ILR members and in an effort to reduce expenses and streamline the registration process, the ILR Board of Directors has decided to revise the policies regarding listing documents.
As of November 1, 2006, the ILR office will no longer issue Listing Documents in response to incomplete registration applications. Comments from the members have been that issuing those documents is a waste because they are seeking registration status for those animals and having to return a listing document is just an unnecessary added step.
Instead, your invoice will include details of why the registration application was incomplete and what documentation you need to provide to complete the registration process. Because you will no longer need to return a Listing document, you may be able to fulfill most requests for additional documentation through the ILR website rather than mailing in the information.
Because the office staff had to handle the paperwork an additional time to upgrade from a Listing status to Registered status, the ILR has always charged a $5.00 “upgrade fee” to cover the additional staff time and mailing costs. Unfortunately, eliminating the Listing Document will not eliminate the additional staff time required to process incomplete applications so the $5.00 “upgrade fee” will be replaced with a $5.00 “incomplete application fee” to continue to cover those costs. Although the cost will be the same, the upside is that you will no longer need to deal with returning the Listing Document.
Listing documents will be issued in the case of llamas with only one or no ILR registered parents. In these cases, “Listed” is the permanent status for that llama so the Listing Document allows the owner to show in some ALSA classes and also provides the means to transfer ownership to another owner.
If you have questions about these procedures, feel free to contact the ILR office at (406) 755-3438.
Sincerely,

Dear Llama Owners,
RE: ILR Membership Survey 2006
In the last week, the ILR office sent surveys via the US postal service to all ILR members who we do not have e-mail addresses for. We also sent a survey link via e-mail to all llama owners in our database whose e-mail address we have.
The purpose of the brief survey is to determine your motivations in owning llamas. We would also like your feedback and suggestions about new services that the ILR might develop to make the ILR as useful as possible to llama owners like you.
The results of this survey are being compiled by ADG, a firm hired by the ILR to help us in planning for the future. These results will be made available through the ILR website and will also provide the basis for discussions led by Kevin Oschner of ADG, about the future direction of the llama industry. These discussions will take place with Kevin on the Lamaribbean Cruise/Conference next winter.
If you have not had time to fill out your survey, you can click here http://www.lamaregistry.com/survey.php and do it right now!
If you have not yet signed up for the Lamaribbean, you can read more about it at this link http://www.lamaregistry.com/lamaribbean.html. We would love to have you there to participate in stimulating conversations about what might lie ahead for the llama industry. As a dynamic and well-respected speaker throughout the livestock world, Kevin will also be our main speaker at the conference. In addition, you will find that the principles he talks about will prove useful in your personal life as well as any other business you may be involved in.
Thank you sincerely for taking the time to fill out this survey. Your input is valuable and a way for you to have a say in the future of the llama industry.
Sincerely,
Kathi McKinney, Sally Rucker, Karen Baum, Sally Taylor, Mark Smith
